Amongst the Melbourne Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) scene there’s a bit of excitement brewing at the moment as here and there growers, Transition Towners, permaculturalists and other CSA enthusiasts are taking the steps to create their own CSAs.  While 2009 was the year that food coops became mainstream, at this rate 2010 might just be the year of the CSA.  In any case it is well and truly time to brush the old cobwebs off this website and let it do what it was created for.

...(Hang on what's a CSA?)

Here's a look at some new CSAs delivering to Melbourne in 2010...

  • New CSA farm in Healesville
Travis in Healesville is developing a CSA farm to supply produce to communities in Northcote, Brunswick and Warrandyte/Eltham. There will be an information circle on Wednesday 13th January in Northcote to continue visioning and planning the next steps. Contact Travis if you are interested.
  • Boroondara CSA
Transition Town Boroondara is currently exploring options to start a CSA and would welcome expressions of interest from those in the City of Boroondara area who would like to get involved in it's development or become a member.
    Email: myang@farmgateway.org  for details.
  • Captains Creek Farm Organic Box Scheme
Angie from Brunswick is liaising with Captains Creek Farm of Blampied, near Daylesford, and is looking for prospective subscribers to join their Organic Box Scheme to pick up from Brunswick on a weekly basis.  Commencing Saturday January 16th or 23rd.
More details soon or email: myang@farmgateway.org
  • Northcote Food Coop
Northcote Food Coop has developed in partnership with Yellow Box Road Organics of Seymour to provide fresh veggies to the locals of Northcote.  They currently have 10-15 households participating and are not currently looking for more, however if you would like to get in touch with them, contact Kat.

If you are a wishing to join a CSA and there are no CSAs starting up in your area, consider finding a farmer and starting your own or follow this link to be notified of new CSAs as they develop near you.
