The Farm Gateway is the portal connecting Melbournians with their farmers.

A place where you can discover the world of eating locally and ethically while hearing about the people who grow and raise your food.

A 2006 study of farmers and consumers beliefs about CSA in Australia found that the most necessary first step to get CSAs off the ground here is to increase the awareness in the population (Lea et al. 2006). It was from this determination and an analysis of other findings, that The Farm Gateway Project was conceived.

The project aims to provide a platform through which growers and eaters can find each other and create links for a more sustainable, resilient and fair food system.  At the same time the website will provide an insight into farming for readers, with profiles of farms and their farmers that are engaging and informative.

Alongside these stories will be information about alternative and sustainable food distribution systems while allowing readers to express interest in getting involved. Initially the focus will be on Community Supported Agriculture, with potential later expansion into other areas such as food co-ops etc. the website will also direct readers to ways in which they can engage with individual farms, whether it be through CSA, farm gate sales, tours or farmers markets.

At a time of rising fuel and thus food costs, industrial agriculture and chemical farming, The Farm Gateway supports paths to a more sustainable, local and healthy food future.
