How Local Organics started

Angie from Brunswick East contacted Rod May From Captain's Creek organic farm and they have been working together for a few years getting Local Organic Veggies to Melbourne. New Members are welcome to join this member based business.

After getting excited about eating local organic food and buying direct from organic farmers my partner and I did some research and found Captain’s Creek organic farm and farmer, Rod May.  The farm runs a local veggie box scheme during summer and autumn, and Rod was happy to extend his run to Melbourne if we formed a group and made it a single drop off point. So a group of friends and I did it! We soon realised that to run effectively this little scheme needed more people and more than love! So the group of friends spread to the community and has now become a Member-based business. During Winter and Spring Rod stops his variety of production and we work with him and 5-7 other local and Victorian farmers and the wholesale market when necessary to continue eating great food! Veggie boxes come in a range of sizes and include a variety of in season fruit and veg. These boxes offer great value way to get staple organics into your home.

After a few years of switching from Rod's summer boxes to the combination box during winter we decided to streamline the year and work with Rod and other local farmers all year to make tasty Local Organic Boxes. That said It's your choice! You can get a Local Organics Mixed box or (during Rods box season) you can still order one of Rod's mixed boxes which are exceptonally good value that comes with dirt and the occasional bug and a lota love!

Along with fresh fruit and veggies, we all have access to a growing amount of local organic staple foods like, dairy, flour, egg, oil, honey, apple juice, oats etc. It's great to eat fresh great tasting, local and organically grown food and also start to form relationships with the people behind the food and the people who live near by!

Organic wine tasting with Euan?

We 'ave a wine buff in our midst willing to buy some bottles and take our noses and taste buds through their paces.

It will be about 10-20 of us (if more are interested we can hold another one). We all put in $20-30 (depending on how fancy we want to go) for the wine and some cheese and crackers. We just need a venue. Anyone got a bigger lounge room than us?
