Local Food Group Wins State Award |

Congratulations to Damper Creek Cooperative (sustainable local organic produce) of Ashwood, which has won the category for Community Action in the Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Sustainable Cities Awards. The Cooperative runs a produce swap, organic vegie box scheme and coordinates dry goods distribution with members. This is all part of their aims to minimise their greenhouse gas contributions, support local food producers, be socially responsible, promote local resilience and a sense of community.
Winning the award is notable as Damper Creek Cooperative was initiated by members of the community whilst all other 17 finalists in the different categories for the awards were either supported or initiated by municipal councils.
Indeed it has been an exciting weekend for the Cooperative who, two days after receiving the award last Friday, were also covered in a story included in The Sunday Age (also mentioning The Farm Gateway), available to read via the link below.
