As you may have heard, Australia is soon to have its own Local Harvest website, to help Australians find local sources of food and grow their own.  Based on the US website of the same name, this resource has been initiated by the Ethical Consumer Group, who have already contributed much great work towards raising awareness around ethical and sustainable food in this country.  To date their efforts have involved offering tools for demystifying ethical purchasing decisions through their Guide to Ethical Supermarket Shopping, supermarket tours and other initiatives.
Now, for the betterment the local food security, they are extending their skills to create a directory of sustainable food in Australia as a one stop shop for anyone trying to find food co-ops and box systems etc in their suburb and surrounding areas. After a successful fundraising drive through Pozible, a “crowdfunding” platform for creative ideas and initiatives, Local Harvest will be lanching in February 2012 at the Sustainable Living Festival.

The project has already attracted media attention and was covered in The Age’s Epicure recently

The Farm Gateway will be contributing its resources to help support Local Harvest in the area of Community Supported Agriculture initiatives in Victoria.
