The Transition Kew Food Coop was initiated by members of Transition Town Boroondara.  Transition Towns are about communities responding to the challenges and opportunities presented by peak oil and climate change to move to a safe and sustainable future.  Food Cooperatives can be a part of that response, helping communities come together to become more resilient by sourcing their food locally and sustainably.

Transition Kew Food Coop has been developed by Transition Town Boroondara to bring local, organic and sustainable food directly from farmers to members.  The first initiative of the group is a veggie box subscription which commenced in October 2010 to which members may subscribe on a weekly or fortnightly basis.  See the Become a Member page to find out how to join.

What are the aims of this particular food co-op?

1. To provide access to food that is safe, wholesome, affordable and seasonal;
2.  To help the environment through the support of local, sustainable organic/biodynamic growers.
3. To create connections and relationships with growers, while providing them with a fair return for their work;
4.  To build a diverse and vibrant co-operative community supported by every one of its members.
5. To support the development of other food co-ops within Boroondara.
